Q sat down carefully on the edge of the bed.
Duo opened his eyes and turned his head slightly to look up at his boss. The ice pack on his forehead slipped and he caught it before it got away.
Q smiled at him.
"Feeling better?"
"I guess. Allowing for the fact that I totally humiliated myself in front of who-knows-how-many people," he said sourly.
Golden-haired Q shook his head. "You've no reason to feel humiliated."
"I fainted! Like a Victorian heroine with a case of the vapors!" Duo smacked his forehead. "Just because Trowa and Wufei happened to be in their animal forms!"
"You didn't know, Duo. Unexpected information can be very shocking."
Duo glared accusingly. "Yeah. Have you ever fainted, Q?"
Q considered for a moment. "Yes, actually I have." Duo's eyebrows shot up. "It was the day my favorite mare informed me that I had absolutely no fashion sense, and that she would not be carrying me again until I got rid of my hideous pink riding coat. Her words."
Duo stared at him. "Your horse critiqued your clothes?"
Q laced his fingers over one knee, grinning. "Oh, Sha-la had strong opinions. You're not alone, you see."
"But... In front of everyone...?"
"I doubt if more than five people noticed."
Duo pulled the ice pack over his eyes. "Five is bad enough," he muttered.
"Trowa and Wufei noticed, of course, and Heero --"
"Heero saw me faint?!" Duo sat up. "Aw, shit!"
Q shot him a quelling glance. "Heero carried you in here. And Mistress Loquinn and myself."
Duo worked his way through that information. "But there were other people in the garden..."
"I'm afraid they were rather fully distracted by Heero's reaction." Duo's eyes widened. "Well, let's just say that Heero Yuy angry is a very distracting sight."
"Heero was angry? Because I fainted?" That didn't quite make sense.
"Because Trowa and Wufei didn't seem to be doing anything for you. He's a very protective sort of person, you know," explained Q discretely. Duo would hear soon enough the details of the garden episode; Heero might even tell him.
"Um... Yeah." Duo lay down again. "I guess I never did get my paperwork in order," he said, changing the subject.
Q patted his arm. "Don't worry about that. Trowa and Wufei brought it all to my office, neatly ordered. I've only had time to glance at it, but it looks fine."
Duo peered out from under the ice pack. "Q, has anybody ever told you what a sweetheart you are?"
"Only you!" laughed the blond. He bent to kiss Duo's cheek lightly. "You rest a bit more, and I'll see you at 1000 on Monday."
"Thanks, Q... Oh, Q!"
"Yes, Duo?"
"This happened because I didn't know what Trowa and Wufei were... Can I ask...? What is Heero? Just so there are no more surprises." He gave his boss an endearingly lopsided grin.
::Oh, he is a charmer!::
"Heero is a Wyvern."
"Oh. And that is...?"
"A type of dragon."
Duo blinked. "Like Wufei?"
Q smiled and shook his head. "Oh, nothing like Wufei. Ask him; he'll show you."
"Oh. Okay. Thanks, Q."
"You're welcome, Duo."
