Blue Forest Banshee

Part 53

Heero worked his way slowly down the line of Duo's jaw, the curve of his throat and across his collarbone. Duo hissed and whimpered and moaned all the while, his fingers clenched in Heero's dark hair. As Heero reversed course to kiss his way up the other side of Duo's neck, the Banshee squirmed and let out a loud squeak.

Heero paused, smirking. "Was that for me?" he murmured archly.

Duo gasped, shuddered and blurted out, "Erk! Bug! Bug! In my shirt!"

With a growl, Heero rocked back onto his heels, at the same time grabbing the hem of Duo's shirt and whipping it over his head. While he shook it out, Duo squirmed around under him to present his back to Heero.

"Scratch! Geez, what is it?! Heero, scratch my back!"

"Hah!" Heero reached for the offending insect with one hand while scratching Duo's bare back with the other.

"Oooooh... Yeah... Oh, right there... Ahhh..."

"Here's your culprit." Heero dropped the bug in front of the purring Banshee, and continued to scratch his back with both hands.

Duo glared at the large, iridescent green beetle. It had landed on its back and was waggling its legs trying to turn over. Duo put out his finger and the beetle grabbed hold. He brought the bug close to shake his other finger at it.

"That's a bad thing to do, dude!" he lectured. "I'm not food and my shirt isn't shelter." He looked over his shoulder at Heero, who was trying to stifle a spasm of snickers. "Hn! You see him? He's not a nice creature. If you had crawled into his shirt, you'd be a squash blot on the grass!" He flicked his fingers. "Now, run along and eat some leaves." The beetle opened its wings and lifted lazily into the air, buzzing loudly away.

Duo gave a great sigh and flopped back onto the grass. "Talk about a mood killer..."

Heero swung off Duo's legs to sit beside him. "Did you expect that insect to understand you?"

Duo shrugged. "Maybe. It doesn't hurt to be polite, just in case."

Heero chuckled, shaking his head. "You are amusing. Here, put your shirt on." He offered the t-shirt.

Duo took his shirt, turning it inside out to inspect it for any other hitchhikers. "Sneaky beetle..." He shivered slightly.

The Wyvern got to his feet, extending his hand. "It's time to head in anyway. It's getting cold."

Pulling on his shirt, Duo grabbed the offered hand to pull himself up. "Yeah. I should have brought my cloak." He'd barely finished when Heero's cloak dropped around his shoulders. "Heero..."

"Hush, baby. I know perfectly well you can take care of yourself. The point is that you don't always have to. Okay?"

"Okay." Duo rested his head against Heero's shoulder. "As long as you don't fuss."

"Me? Fuss? Never!"

Duo straightened with a snort. "Yeah, right."

Blue eyes met purple. A single dark brow arched.

"Are you wearing more heel?"

"No... Why?"

"Then you've gotten taller." Heero patted his shoulder. "Stand straight. You are taller, by at least an inch."

"Cool!" Duo laughed. "Maybe I'll be taller than you eventually!"

Heero snorted. "Only in this form, baby." He hooked his arm around Duo's waist.

"Hey, taller is taller."

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

"Sleep here?" Heero asked softly, nuzzling Duo's ear.

"Mmmm... Heero... I'm not... you know..."

"Okay. I said I would ask occasionally."

"Yeah... That's fine... I just don't..."

"I know. I'm not going anywhere, baby; I promise."

"You're awfully patient for a dragon..."

"The best is always worth waiting for."

"...Heero..."

"See you in the morning..."

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

It's after midnight.

I'm standing in the bathroom doorway, watching him sleep.

He doesn't know I'm here.

I do this at least once a night.

I can't get to sleep myself unless I check on him.

I think this might qualify as 'stalking' among Humans, this sly voyeurism of mine.

I never go beyond this doorway. Have not even sat on his bed since that night when his loneliness got the better of him and my protective instincts betrayed me.

He won't sleep with me, won't have sex, but the way he kisses, I don't really mind that much.

Strike that; yes, I do mind, but not enough to make it an issue right now.

Why is he holding me off when we both know he's been sexually active in the past? He makes an interesting distinction between comfort and love. Apparently, when he was younger and alone in the Human world, he sought comfort where he could find it, to include sex with other boys in the same situation. It wasn't love or commitment, but companionship, acceptance and a kind of "us against them" comfort.

I have a history of my own. I had a few "best friends" when I was young. Other teenagers with whom to explore and keep secrets from the adults. Who, in all probability, knew exactly what we were doing, because they had done the same when they were that age.

In any case, neither of us brings virginity to this relationship.

My Banshee wants to be sure of my motives, I suspect. He's been wounded somehow in the past and knows to protect himself from further wounds. Perhaps he is even testing my resolve. I don't care.

I am an infinitely patient creature when necessary.

I have chosen him.

Time will tell whether he has chosen me.
